Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

Year 6 is lead by Isabel Paton and she is supported by Hannah Levane.

Year Six is an exceptional year where everything the children have learnt over their time in the Primary Phase comes together. We have high expectations of the children as independent, collaborative, confident, resilient, respectful and self-motivated learners who strive for excellence. They also take on a great responsibility as role models for the rest of the children in the Primary Phase.  All of this is part of the children’s preparation for Secondary School and being part of an all through school is important in ensuring a successful transition.

In the Summer Term children complete SATS tests in Reading, Maths and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. Their writing assessment is based on the writing that they produce across the year in class. The engaging curriculum covers English, Maths, Science, PE, Geography, History, Spanish, Art, Computing, RE, PSHE and Music. We are particularly passionate about Reading which gives children the opportunity to enrich their minds, expand their thinking or escape to a different place. We use the Collins 'Big Cat' reading scheme books

We believe the quotes below sum up the ethos in Year Six:

‘Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm’ - Emerson.

‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire’ - W.B. Yeats.
